If you need a serious compactor for your project, buy/rent a serious one. But if you’re like me and can go over the area multiple times and aren’t in a big hurry, this will probably work for you. I own a landscape company and use this to compact the soil under the patios I am building. It works well, just not as well as a larger machine would. But again it works and has paid for itself in the last 2 months just by not using gasoline.

If you have ever used one of those hand tamping poles to compact ground, you know how tedious, exhausting and inexact it can be. When I decided to do a significant patio extension of 20×20 pavers, I knew I didn’t want to repeat that experience. In 20 minutes, I completed the work that might have taken a day before. I had the luxury to relevel the sand a couple more times and compact it to make sure everything was just right. I could not have done that with a tamping pole. Well worth the money in saving time, labor and getting an excellent result.

I needed a plate compactor for a small patio installation in my backyard, which is approximately 14 feet by 14 feet. I contacted the local big-box store’s rental department to inquire about renting a gas compactor, but the daily cost was $97. Since this was my first time installing a patio, I knew I’d need a compactor for the base and the stones, but I wasn’t sure how long I would need it. At $97 a day, costs could quickly escalate.
However, this little tool did the job admirably. I spent roughly what I would have on a rental, but now I own it for future projects. While I don’t have extensive experience with plate compactors, this one seems to have done a fantastic job. It compacted everything nicely and tightly, leaving me with no complaints.

Easy to use electric compactor. We used it to compact base for side walk at our new house. It worked really well. Fairly light weight so we can move it easily on a wagon.

Works pretty well although it sometimes cuts out after a few minutes and you have to reset the safety button to keep going. Only costs about 2 days rental for a gas version so definitely worth it.
