Br advised that this chuck requires 4 mtg studs. I was unaware and tried to mount it on my three hole back plate???

I got this to use on my old Atlas 12 ” lathe. The original 4 jaw is way too big for small stuff. I have a three jaw that I use mostly, but I need something to hold small irregular pieces. This fits my needs fine. I found a backplate on EBAY that just happened to fit PERFECTLY after I received it. Took a fine face cut to insure no run-out. It’s typical Chinese quality, But it serves my purpose. Don’t recommend for fine precision jobs though.

My minilathe came with a three-jaw chuck, so I needed a four-jaw for times when odd shaped materials won’t work in the 3-jaw. It came well packaged and completely covered with a machine oil to prevent rust, and it took a bit to clean it all off. The jaws all needed sharp edges smoothed off, and once re-lubricated and assembled, it works fine. Just taking a star off for the sharp edges.

Great value 4 jaw chuck for the price. It came in clean without much dirt or grime from manufacturing. I only needed to remove the jaws, give it wipe down, and mount it on the lathe. Keep in mind this chuck has 4 bolt pattern for mounting.

Bought to put on a weld positioner, works great to be able to weld square to round parts. I took the spring off the chuck end bit the quality seems good.

Needed to make some parts with offsets, so I got this. The mounting studs that came with it might have worked if the mounting plate on my lathe was 3 angstroms thick, but I cut the heads off some bolts to mount it. After cleaning it up, and oiling it, it works fine, and the mild aggravation was worth it for the price. The parts got made.

The quality of the chuck seems pretty good, all the parts arrived without any obvious defects. I ordered this for a future project so I can’t swear to the quality 100%, but a visual and functional inspection didn’t turn up any problems. The independent jaws adjust as expected, and the body seems well made.
I’m looking forward to building a 4th axis for my CNC with this and a few more parts. After I customize my CNC to increase rigidity and use an 80mm air-cooled spindle.
Anyway, it seems a great value purchase and I’m hoping to get some good use out of this.

Ok so I purchased 4 independent jaw chuck because its the only way I can work on shapes other then round.
I never owened anything other than a three jaw chuck, so it was a learning curve.
Quality and precision: My Vevor lathe came with a three bolt stud mounting pattern, and new chuck has a four hole mounting pattern.at first a bought a four hole backing plate to later realize my backing plate is pressed on. So new plate was a waste of money. I wound up drilling my original backing plate , to work with the four hole new chuck.After mounting up everything my runout turned out to be .002. Now that was a surprise to say the least. I very happy with purchase. I would definitely purchase again.
