I was eyeballing these at big orange store recently because I’m going to be replacing the roof on my garage this spring. Then I found this and thought I’d give it a try. It arrived and I’m pleased. It’s just as robust as the one I was looking at in the store. I like the long handle so I can minimize the amount I have to be on this small roof that has sketchy bracing underneath. Now I just have to get my technique down.

I recently had to replace some shingles on my shed due to a leak, and this shingle remover made the job much easier. It’s a simple tool, but it’s well designed. The D grip handle is comfortable to hold, even when you’re working for a while. It gives you good leverage, which is important when you’re dealing with stubborn shingles. The blade slides under the shingles pretty easily.
It’s definitely better than trying to use a shovel or some other makeshift tool. The length of the handle is good, too. It let me remove shingles without having to bend over too much, which saved my back. It feels sturdy and well made, so I think it will last me through future roofing projects.

Easy to handle

A back and life saver. I made the dumb decision to replace all the shingles on my roof single handedly. Without realizing that most of the effort isn’t installing the shingles it’s tearing the old ones down. I was using a roof shingle removal tool that looks akin to a crowbar but it was back breaking and slow. This shingle ripper was a major improvement. I can leverage my body weight and don’t have to crouch to use it. The ripper is heavy duty and can handle quite a bit of abuse. I was able to tear down 1200 sq ft of roofing much easier with it. The grip is comfortable, although I’d still recommend using gloves. And the shovel had no issues gripping and pulling out the nails.

I have had a few of these in my life and this one is a solid tool. The welds look good and the finish is smooth. The rubber handle has been holding up to our daily abuse just as well as any others. The weight is a little heavy but I like that as it helps me slam in to the shingles a little harder. And the bend gives a good amount of leverage to get a good lift usually pulling most nails all the way up.

My husband liked them, they work very well, only that I had to have the longer one, but after that, it works well.

I wish I could give it 6 stars. I’m an old man with no business doing a shingle tear off on my own roof ( except I’m cheap).. this thing tears through shingles and nails. It handles easilynwithgppd grip. Far better than pitch fork/ shovel and other implements of my youth. Worth every penny
